Line of Duty Announced for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th installment, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode series created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The previous season concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but official word only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty premiered in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.
Broadcasters has not yet announced when the new season will premiere.
The finale of series six brought the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
