Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades After Leading Abusive Songs About Manager Wilder
Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United only half a year following instigating derogatory songs aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a agreement joining the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's seven-year career at Elland Road finished through agreement this past summer.
Among Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead abusive chants about Wilder during Leeds' promotion party in April. Now, the one-cap England player will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to rescue his beloved club out of the relegation zone.
Past Conflict Between Bamford and Wilder
The pair had previous conflict before Leeds moved up back to the top flight the previous campaign and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.
Reconciliation & Moving Forward
Everything appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the league's lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement up front while Bamford aiming to revive his career.
The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Pat recently and I’ve no problem whatsoever with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We spent a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke too and had a half-hour chat together and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we used to give it and accept it and that is an integral part of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”
Recent Playing Challenges
The forward featured in 18 appearances for Leeds last season however the ex- Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
