Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his future after a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted familiar weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period like this with results this poor.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is removed, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
