A female charged with harassing Kate McCann reportedly left her a recorded message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who a jury heard has repeatedly asserted she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial charged with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, the tribunal was told phone records and evidence recovered from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during the past two years.

Madeleine's case in 2007 - at the age of three during a vacation in Portugal - is one of the most publicized child disappearance cases and remains unresolved.

'I Don't Want Money'

Another recorded message, played in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I realize I'm heavy and unattractive like Madeleine used to be, but I feel what I know."

While one recording of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's answerphone stated: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I am she? What happens next? Is that not crucial for you?"

"I do not need money, I possess a life here in Poland, I just want to know," the recording stated.

The jury was advised that through electronic messages, SMS messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, transmitted early photographs to her phone in a bid to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and stated to have "memories" from a youth with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an investigator with the police force who gathered the data, advised the court there "showed no any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the call data.

On 9 October 2024, Mr McCann picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "a wrong number."

During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's recording stating "I will persist and I will prove my position."

The court heard Mrs Spragg established a relationship online with Ms Wandelt prior to accompanying her on a visit to the McCanns' home in Leicestershire in last December.

Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out via WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to say the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she should be considered genuine in the period before the trip to that location, that area, in December 2024.

The court learned correspondence between the two individuals, in last November, considering endeavoring to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from silverware at a dining venue.

"We need to take action," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.

On the occasion of the appearance to their house, Mrs Spragg sent a message which said: "We're currently sitting near the McCanns' house with our vehicle dark like private investigators. I wanted to achieve this with someone else I hadn't anticipated I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
