The Renowned Musician Urges Public Help to Get Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The project seeks to send support to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“It has a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The track was produced in the wake of a solidarity show held in September. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the piece was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of musicians contributing to Lullaby includes a selection of well-known figures from the industry. All took part in the September show, which successfully generated a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a trio of music creators. The single features a fusion of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the project have clarified that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These proceeds will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a representative commented. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Obviously, the more the merrier. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the area was noted for its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of property described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a couple of million is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is primarily making this cause better known and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
