Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.
The creative mastermind never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would become a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show wrapping up—and Season 2 already in development—the creative team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.
Regarding the Incredible Viewer Reception
Anyone might to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions about Pluribus. He is striving to ignore the noise.
“It's like being an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's on purpose. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”
Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”
“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.
The Big Question: Does the showrunner Know the Ending of Pluribus?
Considering Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… sort of.
“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to abandon a solid concept for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”
On the other hand, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.
“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Alternatively, why not reference the classics?
“I want Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.
